The team has finished Turkish Cup’s Group B in the first place by collecting three wins in three games.
On our last day at the group stage of AXA Sigorta Kupa Voley which is also known as the Turkish Cup, the team has defeated Aydın 3-0 and finished Group B unbeaten.
At the first set which started with a thrilling rally our captain and libero Simge Aköz’s defensive performance was the key. Young setter Elif Şahin’s clever setting was also remarkable in winning the first set by 25-19. Tijana Boskovic scored 7 points in the first and her performance was followed by Jordan Thopmson (5 pts) and Hande Baladın (4 pts).
Hande Baladın did a good job in attack and defense at her first official match of the season since she was absent in the first two games of the tournament.
Tigers didn’t give a chance to their opponents and won the second set by 25-16. Especially Yasemin Güveli’s two blocks in this set came right on time.
Once we settled our team performance in the third set, it was easier for us to keep our control over the game. In the third set, American middle blocker Chiaka Ogbogu’s attacks were remarkable.
Today’s best scorers were Jordan Thompson (19 pts) and Tijana Boskovic (16 pts).
The Turkish Cup quarterfinal match will be held on February 14, 2021. Tigers will face the second ranked team of Group C.

Marco Motta: “Today we played good volleyball. Especially, we did a good job in attack and block. I think we have improved our game match by match.”
Tijana Boskovic: “We are very happy that we have started the season in this way. We could not show our best performance at the beginning but we improved our game each passing match. Now there is an important Super Cup match ahead us.”
Hande Baladın: “As you know, I couldn’t play with the team in last two days. I have joined the team after my Covid-19 test resulted negative for the third consecutive time. I would like to thank to the people who asked about me. I am happy that we finished today’s match 3-0 with a good team performance. The VakıfBank match is ahead us. We will continue working hard to show a good performance at that match.”
Elif Şahin: “From the first match until the last match we have improved our performance. And today we managed to win 3-0 with a great team performance. Now it is time for us return Istanbul and start preparing for the VakıfBank match.”
