In our season opener for the 2020-21 Turkish League, we emerge victoriously with a 3-1 win over Yeşilyurt.
Despite Yeşilyurt’s quick start to the game, Eczacıbaşı VitrA managed to take control over the game with the help of Hande Baladın and Jordan Thompson’s attacks. The offensive performance of our middle blockers also had an important share in winning the first set by 25-20.
In the second set which we comfortably won by 25-17, middle blocker Chiaka Ogbogu displayed a remarkable performance as she scored 5 attack points.
Despite Tijana Boskovic and Jordan Thompson’s attacks at the beginning of the third set, Yeşilyurt came out stronger in the third set which ended narrow (24-26).
Yeşilyurt may be the stronger side at the beginning of the fourth set. However, we came back from 18-10 loss with our captains Simge Aköz and Tijana Boskovic’s giving great efforts. By winning the fourth set 26-24, we claimed the first win in the league and collected three points.
Tigers will be the guest of Beşiktaş at the second week of the league next Tuesday, September 15.

Marco Motta: “Yeşilyurt played a very good match. We did more mistakes than we normally do and this decreased our performance in the third and the fourth sets. However, it is important to start the league by winning three points.”
Merve Atlıer: “I think we could bring out the energy we had in the Turkish Cup and the Champions Cup also in the first game of the league today. We are going through an intense match schedule. We keep training accordingly and believe that we can increase our performance even more.”
Chiaka Ogbogu: “After a tough match that we played three days ago it was not easy for us to keep the same concentration again for another match. But we managed to take our control over the game in the late parts of the game. We should not forget that all the teams in this league are very competitive.”
