Team Manager Nalan Ural reflected on the pandemic’s impacts on volleyball at sportstv, a Turkish sports channel.
Ural was hosted yesterday by sportstv’s programme titled “5. Set” (The Fifth Set) presented by a former volleyball player of the Club, Metin Görgün. Expressing her wishes of health and safety for all, Ural shared her opinions about the volleyball leagues: “This is now something above all athletic achievements, this is about people’s health. No one is in a state to think competitively. Not only in volleyball, but in all fields of sports, Clubs have suffered some financial losses. But what could be more important than health? This situation is beyond control and that’s why I find it unfavorable to continue the leagues as such.”
Speaking of how the pandemic has affected the financial aspect of volleyball, Ural adds, “To avoid a regression in volleyball, everyone has to take some responsibility, developing a more global approach to the matter and focusing on how to gain from the game of volleyball in a balanced attitude in the long run.”
Ural said this period could be a good time for players with injuries to turn it into their benefit, referring to the cases of the outside hitter of Tigers and the Turkish National Team, Hande Baladın, whose rehabilitation process of the metatarsal bone fracture in her left foot still goes on, as well as the middle blockers Yasemin Güveli and Beyza Arıcı who are recovering from their shoulder injuries.
