How would a professional volleyball player spend the day productively these days without playing volleyball? The “Pass the Time” series continue with Carli Lloyd sharing her life in the Covid-19 world from USA.
Joining the “Pass The Time” campaign initially started by the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) in order to entertain volleyball fans during this period they all spend at home, we decided to ask Eczacıbaşı VitrA ladies what their daily routines are, what kind of exercises they regularly practice and how they cope up with the current situation whilst at home.

“Thankfully I am home with some of my family in Southern California. My day usually starts around 7. I have my coffee and breakfast and then I head outside to help my Uncle with work around the property. We have been finishing up different projects and he’s teaching me how to use some of his tools so it’s been pretty exciting. In the afternoons I either workout or do yoga with my sister and in the evenings one of my favorite pass times is to make a fire and play games or read. We’ve also been trying new recipes and haven’t had a single takeout meal in over 3 weeks! It’s been fun to be cooking more. My mom is a great cook so I know I’m extremely fortunate to be here during this challenging time.
Since I’ve come home I’ve done Yoga and worked out. Alternating days has been working well so far but sometimes I will do both on the same day!
I make sure I have a soft plan the day before so I know what I need to get done the next day. For example- my workouts- thankfully we have a gym at my house so I have been able to use weights and continue most of my exercises from our workouts at Eczacıbaşı club gym. Meditating in the morning has helped me lower the anxiety I’ve been feeling with all of this change too. And yoga is also super healing for my mind and my body.
The important thing here for me is to know my intention. I intend to stay in great shape, not knowing what the future holds- but I want to make sure I can be ready for anything.
My suggestion is to limit media exposure. The news right now is pretty daunting and heavy. I think it’s causing a lot of us more anxiety than we need right now. Stay updated but not overloaded. This is a great time to connect with your loved ones- even if it’s over FaceTime or Skype. But most of all- I think this time is really important to reconnect to ourselves. To slow down and ask ourselves what we want out of this lifetime. What things are most important to us and what new actions we can take each day to live a more fulfilling, positive and joyful life. Personally, I think that a mediation practice or breathing practice can benefit a lot of people- so I would challenge everyone to at least give it a try. There are also a lot of great yoga videos on YouTube and it’s a nice way to move your body, connect to yourself and to feel good. We can all remember to spend some time remembering what we are truly grateful for- this is medicine for the soul.
I miss Turkey already. I miss my neighborhood in Turkey. I miss my teammates.
I hope all of the people that are working to keep people safe and healthy know just how important they are to all of us.
We can all do our part. Stay home. If you do go out be mindful of what you are doing and who it could affect. We will get through this together.”
