To reinforce our roster during Captain Yeon Koung Kim’s recovery phase due to the injury she has been suffering since the Tokyo Olympic Qualification and to continue the rest of our long 2019-2020 journey stronger, the American outside hitter Sonja Newcombe will join the team for the second half of the season.
The Club’s statement about the transferring of Sonja Newcombe:
“Due to our captain Yeon Koung Kim’s injury and also to strengthen our defensive side a little bit more, we have made an agreement with Sonja Newcombe. We believe that during Champions League games and for different line-ups in the Turkish League games, Sonja will be a helpful contribution. She played in Turkey before so we believe that she will have no problems in adapting here. We are looking forward to see her as a Tiger.”
About Sonja Newcombe
· Born in 1988 in California, USA, Sonja Newcombe is 188 cm tall and plays as an outside hitter.
· Having played at University of Oregon during her college years, Sonja had her first experiences in Turkey during the 2011-2012 season where she played for Pursaklar, Ankara.
· Being in professional volleyball scene since 2010, Sonja played for Nantes, Pursaklar, Rote Raben Vilsbiburg, ZVK Tjumen, İdman Ocağı, Guangdong, Lokomotiv Baku, Schuan, Legnano, Minas, Alba Blaj and Liaoning consecutively.
