Eczacıbaşı VitrA ISTANBUL, who started this season with a young and extremely dynamic team, are the current leaders of the Turkish women’s national league, a position they cemented after claiming the derby with city rivals VakifBank 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-20). Eczacıbaşı ended VakifBank’s winning streak, which had been lasting for 10 matches, and improved their record in the national league to 17 wins in 18 games they have contested this far.
Their young star Tijana Bošković, who was the best scorer of the derby, commented:
“This game was important to us like any other. We tried to focus and give our best throughout the entire match. I am happy that we played as a team and helped each other. This is one of the reasons leading to our victory today. Our next match is on Thursday against Yamamay in the CEV Cup. Now we will start thinking about that match and I hope we keep up the good work.”
“El Clasico” was not big only in Turkey, but drew attention from fans all around the world. Eczacıbaşı VitrA players and technical staff celebrated the win together with their fans after the match.
