Eczacıbaşı Sports Club President Faruk Eczacıbaşı attended the Brand&Sport Summit 2018 giving an interview on our Club’s reception of the IOC’s Women and Sport World Trophy.
Our Club President Faruk Eczacıbaşı was hosted by the Brand&Sport Summit 2018, held in Zorlu Performing Arts Center for the second time, yesterday giving an interview conducted by the Sportsman Group Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ahmet Gülüm. As he told the story of our Club’s recent reception of the IOC’s Women and Sport World Trophy, Faruk Eczacıbaşı stressed our Club’s longstanding contribution to women and volleyball in Turkey.
“We’ve been nominated for this award and received it… Before I stepped on the stage at the award ceremony in Argentina, I saw powerful and self-conscious ladies behind all the other projects. All of the awardees were women, then, I was on the stage. It meant a lot to me to stand out amongst them, and so was receiving the award itself.
The most important thing is the sustainability of the story. This country can achieve anything, as long as it stands behind it consistently. I was raised in a sports club with its values. I have been doing this job actively since early 70’s. If you set out to do everything, you can never excel (on a single thing). That’s why we focused on a single thing.”
Our Club President also referred to the legendary volleyball coach Cengiz Göllü, who passed away in 2014 having contributed much to the development of Eczacıbaşı Sports Club and Turkish volleyball.
“He was a good leader in terms of his relationship with the players and club administration. He built up relationships based on respect. As a leader and a director, he set a good example before the young and ambitious women of the club.”
Emphasizing how Eczacıbaşı Sports Club pioneered in women’s volleyball in Turkey by the statement “We stroke the match”, Faruk Eczacıbaşı also touched upon the world titles (in Turkish volleyball) and the recent success of VakıfBank in the FIVB Club World Championship receiving a big round of applause from the audience.
