Having defeated Dinamo Moscow in straight sets, the team complete the CEV Champions League Pool D 1st Round with three wins in three matches.
In the first set, Chiaka Ogbogu scored 3 blocks and 3 attacks. Once again today, our young setter Elif Şahin who finished yesterday’s first set against Lokomotiv Kaliningrad with a setter tip also finished today’s first set in the same way. In the first set which we won 25-18, our captain Tijana Boskovic killed 8 balls on 9 swings.
Throughout the whole second set which we won by 25-20, Simge Akoz showed a remarkable defensive performance. While Jordan Thompson brought in 7 points, Hande Baladın who was substituted for Saliha Şahin scored some nice backrow attacks, killing a total of 4 balls on 6 swings. The team scored 7 blocks in the second set with 5 of them belonging to Chiaka Ogbogu.
The team’s 5-1 streak at the beginning of the third set was elevated by a collective blocking and defensive performance. By winning the third set 25-14, the team have emerged as the leader of Pool D by scoring three victories in three games.
Having made her Champions League debut in this tournament, the 2001-born Elif Şahin scored 5 setter tips today and won a well-deserved ‘MVP of the Match’ award.
Chiaka Ogbogu scored a total of 18 points today, an amazing total of 12 blocks and also 6 attacks.
In general, Tigers pushed well in serving today which allowed them to have a better control over the net. By today’s match, Eczacıbaşı VitrA have become the first-ranked team in team blocks by reaching a total of 46 blocks.
The 2nd Round of Champions League Pool D will take place in Kaliningrad between February 2 and 4, 2021.
