The fifth and final week of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League elimination matches came to an end on 14 June with the final match between Argentina and the USA.
Turkey’s National Team earned its place among the tournament’s six finalists with a 3-1 win over China in Stuttgart, Germany, on 14 June. During the final week of the elimination matches, Eczacıbaşı Vitra team member Meliha İsmailoğlu scored 40 points (29 attacks, 3 blocks, 8 serves); Beyza Arıcı, 15 points (14 attacks, 1 serve); and Gamze Alikaya, 3 points (2 attacks, 1 serve). Additionally, our libero, Simge Aköz, placed second in the “Best Diggers” standings. Overall, during the first five weeks of the tournament, Meliha scored 153 points, Beyza, 25, and Gamze, 21.
Playing on the US National Team, which finished the elimination series in first place, is Eczacıbaşı VitrA Team Captain Jordan Larson. Larson earned 10 points in the fifth week of the tournament (7 attacks, 2 blocks, 1 serve). Lauren Gibbemeyer, who joined our Club this season, added 11 points (7 attacks, 3 blocks, 1 serve).
Overall, Larson scored 129 points and Gibbemeyer, 78, thus contributing in a major way to their national team’s success.
With a 49.28% average, Eczacıbaşı VitrA player Tijana Boskovic placed first in the “Best Scorers” list. While Boskovic’s national team (Serbia) has made it to the finals, the Korean National Team, on which another new Eczacıbaşı VitrA team member, Yeon Koung Kim, plays, will not compete in the VNL finals.
Overall, Boskovic scored 238 points and Yeon Koung Kim, 175 points during the five weeks of the preliminary round.
