Having contributed to a historic success in the CEV U16 European Volleyball Championship, young talents Pelin Eroktay, Dalia Wilson and coach Ayhan Arın from Eczacıbaşı Academy cherish the gold medal that they won in the final against their local hosts Italy.
U16 Turkish National Team is going through a very bright period as the young ladies opened summer by winning the U16 Balkan Championship and continued their rise by finishing the U16 European Championship unbeaten. Having defeated Serbia, Romania, Netherlands, Belgium and Italy in the pool stage consecutively, Turkey lost only one set throughout the tournament which was the semi-final against Slovenia. One of the greatest weapons of Turkey, Eczacıbaşı Academy’s young opposite player Pelin, who was born in 2004, shares how happy she is: “We have always believed that we would become the champions. We trusted in each other and achieved our goal. I would like to thank my coaches and teammates for letting me witness such a great tournament.”
The 2004-born middle blocker Dalia Wilson also had an important share: “I am very happy for myself and teammates. It feels great to know that we are the European champions! I hope we will reach greater results together.”
Not only Pelin and Dalia, who left behind a great season at the Club by winning a gold medal in the U15 and a silver medal in the U17 National Championships, but also our great Academy coach Ayhan Arın did a great job as the assistant coach of Turkey:
“We are very happy and proud. Defeating such a strong opponent like Italy, the local hosts, by 3-0 in their home court feels even greater. I would like to congratulate all athletes and staff members. With this achievement in our pockets, I hope that Turkish volleyball will witness greater results in the future.”
