Solid win in Ankara

25 December 2020

In our third trip to Ankara this month, we grab three points against Ilbank by a 3-0 win.

Making a solid start to the first set, the team emerged strong with a 5-0 streak until 8-2. Both Hande Baladın and Saliha Şahin did a good job in defense in the first set. With Tijana Boskovic and Saliha Şahin scoring 6 points each, the team has won the first set 25-14. The team scored a total of 3 blocks in the first set.

Ilbank came out stronger in the second set. Despite that Ilbank went to technical timeout by leading 12-11, the team managed to take back their control over the game with Tijana Boskovic and Hande Baladın bringing in 8 and 5 points, respectively. The second set finished 25-22 in our favor. The team scored a total of 4 blocks in the second set.

Once again, captain Tijana Boskovic’s attacks broke the tie in the third set which started narrow. After the technical timeout which we led by 12-8, the team didn’t give a chance to Ilbank and managed to finish the third set by 25-20.

Today’s best scorer is Tijana Boskovic by 18 points. Saliha Şahin and Hande Baladın followed Boskovic’s performance by scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The team will play against Beşiktaş in our second postponement match of the week. The Beşiktaş home match will take place this Sunday, December 27, at 6 pm. There will be live broadcast on TRT Spor 2.

Post-game Interviews

Marco Motta: “We did a good job in serving today. We kept control of the game throughout the whole match. I would like to congratulate my team."

Nalan Ural: “We left behind the last but one postponement match before the New Year’s break. There are some injured players in our team. We believe that this break will be helpful for the recovery of those players’ injuries. After the consecutive Champions League matches that we played, our American middle blocker Chiaka Ogbogu got injured from her knee while our American outside hitter Jordan Thompson got injured from her shoulder during a period in which we were physically not in our best shape. That is why we continue our league campaign with the rest of the team. Also our roster is sufficient for that.”

Sladjana Mirkovic: “Since the beginning of the season we have been trying to keep our motivation high by focusing on our own performance. Our rescheduled games fixture still goes on. We will have a short New Year’s break after the Beşiktaş match. Winning the last away match of 2020 has been important for us. I would like to congratulate my team mates.”
