Won 3-1 (25-15, 25-14, 23-25, 25-7) against Cuba in the last game of 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship’s Pool B, Turkish National Team has advanced to the second round, where they will play with Russia, USA, Azerbaijan and Thailand.
Eczacıbaşı VitrA players made important contributions to our National Team’s win over Cuba. Our spiker Meliha İsmailoğlu carried her team with 11 points (6 attacks, 1 block, 4 aces), where she also became the best server of the game. After her successful performance today, our libero Simge Şebnem Aköz has become the 8th best receiver of the tournament. Our middle blocker Beyza Arıcı played an active role in today’s win especially after the second set.
In Pool C, Team USA defeated Russia in five sets, where Eczacıbaşı VitrA captain Jordan Larson scored 16 points (15 attacks, 1 serve) and middle blocker Lauren Gibbemeyer scored 8 points (5 attacks, 2 blocks, 1 ace). On Sunday, October 7th, Team USA will play the first game of Pool F against Bulgaria.
Our Serbian opposite Tijana Boskovic did not play against Puerto Rico today, as her team won 3-0. Serbia will play the first game of Pool E against Mexico on Sunday.
Eczacıbaşı VitrA spiker Yeon Koung Kim scored 9 points (6 attacks, 3 blocks) against Trinidad and Tobago, as the Korean National Team won 3-0 yet did not achieve to advance to the 2nd round.
In the next round, which takes place in Osaka, Turkish National Team will play in Pool F with Russia, USA, Azerbaijan and Thailand, consecutively. Teams who finish their pools in the first three places, will advance to the 3rd round.
Having two days off now, Turkish National Team will play against Russia on Sunday at 10.40 local time.
