Yeon-Koung Kim, the Korean star who will play as an Eczacıbaşı VitrA member in the 2018-19 season, has arrived in Istanbul today in the early hours.
Our Korean spiker, who played for her national team in the FIVB Women’s World Volleyball Championship in Japan, has arrived in Istanbul today in the early hours. Kim will go through a medical check in the following days. She will join the rest of the team, who are currently in Poland to play the friendly tournament "DevelopRes Cup”, to prepare for the upcoming season.
Who is Yeon-Koung Kim?
Yeon-Koung Kim was born in 1988 in South Korea. She is 192 cm tall and plays as wing spiker. She has taken the first steps of her decorated career with the Korean team Pink Spiders, where she has played from 2005 till 2009. She continued her professional career playing for the Japanese team JT Marvelous.
Having become a globally renown player in couple of years, the Korean star came to Fenerbahçe Istanbul in 2011. In her first season with Fenerbahçe, she has not only won the CEV Champions League but also been awarded as the MVP and the best scorer of the tournament. In the 2013-14 season, she has won the CEV Cup and has been awarded as the MVP. She has won the Turkish League in 2015, also having been awarded as the MVP and the best scorer of the league. After playing at Fenerbahçe for six years, she transferred to the Chinese team Shanghai Guohua Life for the 2017-18 season.
Beside her decorated club career, Kim is a player of the Korean National Team who has carried her team at important tournaments such as the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. While she has become the MVP and the best scorer of the tournament by scoring 207 points, her team gained the fourth place in the Olympics. She has become the best spiker of the 2016 World Olympics Qualification tournament.
Being a role model in the sports world due to her sportive career and personality, Kim owns a sports academy in South Korea, where kids have the opportunity to learn playing volleyball, football and basketball.
